Lewisham under 11's crowned best school district football team in the country
The team is made up of twelve of the best footballers from Lewisham primary schools across the borough.
This is the most prestigious competition that district school teams can currently compete in, and Lewisham have won three times in the last seven years – more than any other district team.
The same team of under 11's are also Inner London champions, having beaten Greenwich 3-0 in the Inner London/County FA final, and are due to play Chelmsford in the Greater London Crisp Shield final in the next few weeks.
Manager Paul Harper said:
“The boys had to travel for three and a half hours to play this game and had not played or trained together for eight weeks in the run up to the final, so this has made their performance all the more outstanding. Yet again we have another exceptional team this season, all playing strong football with the passion and skill that has come to be associated with Lewisham teams. Well done boys! We couldn’t be prouder of you.”
Cllr Andre Bourne, Cabinet Member for Culture at Lewisham Council said:
“Huge congratulations to the team, coaches and manager for this brilliant result. It’s been an excellent summer all round for celebrating sporting achievements in Lewisham, with our young people once more demonstrating perseverance, passion and sportsmanship and staying top of their game. We are very proud of the team and hope to see them playing in the national squad in a few years!”
