Knife and ninja sword surrender scheme

To help tackle knife crime and make our communities safer, the government has launched a 30-day knife and weapon surrender scheme.

The scheme runs from Monday 1 July to Wednesday 31 July 2025.

We are supporting this initiative by encouraging residents to safely and anonymously dispose of knives or offensive weapons at designated locations across the borough.

You can surrender weapons at:

  • surrender bins in fixed locations
  • mobile surrender vans, operated by FazAmnesty, which will be available at community hubs on selected dates

All items must be sealed in a bag or box before disposal and must not be carried openly at any time.

Surrender bin locations

  • All Saints Hatcham Community Centre, 105 New Cross Road, SE14 5DJ
  • Downham Leisure Centre, 7–9 Moorside Road, BR1 5EW

Mobile surrender van

  • Wednesday 16 July, 9am–12pm at TNG Youth and Community Centre, 111 Wells Park Road, SE26 6AD
  • Wednesday 30 July, 9am–12.30pm at Bellingham Leisure Centre, 5 Randlesdown Road, SE6 3BT
  • Wednesday 30 July, 1.30pm–5pm at Molesworth Street Car Park, SE13 7DS

Surrendering ninja swords

As part of the government's Safer Streets Mission, a ban on ninja swords will come into effect from Friday 1 August 2025. During the surrender period, ninja swords can be safely disposed of at 22 designated police stations across London, including Lewisham Police Station. All police stations can accept surrendered weapons, but these 22 hubs are intended to be convenient access points across boroughs to minimise travel.

For more information about the scheme, including the ban on ninja swords, visit the official government website on knife surrender arrangements.
