Councillor Edison Huynh, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“A huge well done to all students across the borough who are getting their reward for all their hard work over the last few months and years.
“It was a pleasure to spend time this morning with students and staff at Conisborough College and also Haberdashers’ Knights Academy, a school I used to teach at I still remember the feeling of joy (and relief!) upon receiving the GCSE results. It’s a big day for everyone congratulations to all students in Lewisham as well a big thank you to all the dedicated school staff who work tirelessly to help their students achieve their goals.
It was inspiring to hear from students about their next steps and plans for the future, especially alongside proud parents and carers. Well done as well to all of our adult learners who are also receiving GCSE results today.”
“We are pleased that in Lewisham the overall average pass rate for GCSEs has increased by almost a percentage point from 2024. This is despite wider England trends, where the overall pass rate has fallen slightly this year. This cohort was most affected by covid when they started secondary school, and many had to learn at home and online during that period of time.
“I would like to congratulate all of our students, teachers, and families on these sets of results and wish our students well in the next chapter of their lives”
