Fourth Family Hub opened by Councillor Barnham and Councillor Millbank in Honor Oak
The Honor Oak Youth and Family Hub on Telegraph Hill was opened yesterday (Wednesday 20 November) and to mark the official opening, a ribbon was cut by Councillor Chris Barnham, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People and Councillor Joan Millbank, Ward Member for Telegraph Hill.
Using additional funding that the Council has secured from the UK government, Family Hubs make it quicker and simpler for families to get practical support.
In the New Year, services will be available from the new Family Hub, including parenting and feeding advice, support with wellbeing and mental health, and early language development. The current activities for older children and young people aged 11 to 19 (25 with a special educational need) will continue in the Hub.
Services at the hubs are delivered by Lewisham Council staff and partner organisations. In addition to the physical hub, there is also information available online which draws together information, advice and signposting to further support for families and young people in one easy-to-access online hub.
Councillor Chris Barnham, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“We’re pleased to open a combined Youth and Family Hub in Honor Oak. Everyone is welcome, whether to meet and socialise with other parents and families or to get support from services, all under one roof.
“In recent years we’ve been on a long journey to improve our services, to provide Lewisham families with the support and facilities needed to give children and young people the best possible start in life. Earlier this year, Ofsted praised the significant improvements we’ve seen in our children’s services; this newest Family Hub is another sign of that commitment.”
The Family Hub in Honor Oak is located on Telegraph Hill. From the New Year it will be open every week for local families to meet other parents or find support.
