Extra police patrols for Catford

Additional police patrols are set to be rolled out in Catford this summer, as part of a crackdown on town centre crime.

The Met Police has identified areas across London where they will carry out extra patrols, as they focus on working with councils, businesses and communities to tackle theft, burglary, robbery and persistent anti-social behaviour.

In Catford, the Police have committed to increased police patrols and intelligence-led plain-clothed operations in hotspot areas, including the use of live facial recognition cameras.

This work will be supported by Council teams including Safer Communities, Licensing, Trading Standards and Environmental Enforcement who will be:

  • conducting joint patrols with police to increase visibility and engagement
  • ensuring support is available from outreach services for those who need it
  • carrying out enforcement activity targeting anti-social behaviour and unauthorised trading

Detective Chief Superintendent SE BCU Trevor Lawry, said: “Along with our partners, we are looking to target those incidents that most affect the residents of Lewisham in our summer plans. We have a range of activities that will be in some cases visible, with more police presence and in other case plain clothes. Using an intelligence and data led approach we will be proactively looking to deal with the people that cause harm to our communities.”

Cllr Oana Olaru-Holmes, Cabinet Member for Safer Lewisham, Refugees and Equalities, said: “We know that cracking down on anti-social behaviour and making the borough a safer place is a top priority for local people, which is why we are committed to working with the police to do everything in our power to crack down on crime. Importantly, as a Council we can support this work with services to help those who may be vulnerable and need support to break the cycle, as well as supporting people who are victims of crime. We welcome this renewed focus over the summer and look forward to making sure it targets the areas and issues that impact our communities most.”
