The Blythe Hill Tavern was the deserving winner of ‘Best bar, pub or nighttime economy business ’ at the 2024 Mayor’s Business Awards. Now, proud manager Terry and his team, are one of the six local business faces featured in this year’s Discover Lewisham summer campaign – reminding people to support our fantastic local businesses and explore what Lewisham has to offer.

Whether its families gathering on Fridays, Irish music sessions on Tuesdays and Saturdays, or casual catch ups in the garden - there’s something for everyone.
“We interact with the community – we’ve been doing it for years.”
As well as being known for one of the best ‘Guinness pours in London’, they are known for championing local breweries like Brockley Brewery and Brixton. They always put the community first, supporting festivals, school raffles and community events.
The pub’s commitment to quality and consistency is part of its charm. Terry, who runs the pub, has been working there for 27 years.
“We’ve had the same team here for a long time. We try to maintain our standards and keep it the same for everybody.”
That reputation has earned the tavern numerous awards across the country – including top two London pubs in the country, with Terry attributing its success to the dedication of his staff and the loyal community of visitors. But for Terry, local appreciation means the most:
“It's nice to win national awards or whatever. But I think on your own patch, it’s much more appreciated.”
Built in 1866, the Blythe Hill Tavern has a rich history as a previous coaching inn, where people would stop off on their way to Brighton. Even today, their interior is Grade ll heritage listed.
Today, the pub continues to thrive as Lewisham evolves.
“Lewisham is changing – it’s becoming a real hub. There’s a cross-section of people here, especially in arts and crafts. It’s thriving.”
