Lewisham Council and Nouveau Riche announce call out for Black and Global Majority artists

Are you an artist of Black or Global Majority heritage who wants to create or is already producing work in Lewisham? Are you an emerging artist or at a turning point in your career? We want to hear from you!

This June, the Broadway Theatre in Catford will come alive with the vibrant and diverse talents of Black and Global Majority artists for a new Black and Global Majority Arts Festival for Lewisham, presented by Lewisham Council and Nouveau Riche.

Nouveau Riche, the Associate Company resident at Broadway Theatre, is a multi-award-winning creative movement, led by Global Majority artists and producers, bringing innovation and diversity to the forefront of the arts scene. This year’s festival will focus on the areas of theatre, dance, and music, set and costume designers, and sound and lighting designers. This will also include support for emerging artists and showcasing opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity to be mentored by industry professionals, receive funding to facilitate the development, progression, and staging of your work to be performed during the festival.

We are looking for artists across multidisciplinary art forms:

  • Dance: From traditional to contemporary, street to classical – showcase your dance prowess and tell a story through movement.
  • Theatre: Bring powerful narratives to life, explore new perspectives, and engage audiences with your captivating performances.
  • Music: Whether you play traditional instruments or fuse modern beats with cultural melodies, share your musical journey with the world.
  • Set and costume: Designers, work across the performances for the week through your innovative sets and costumes.
  • Sound & lighting: Craft sonic landscapes and enhance the emotional journey of the audience by working across the festival performances.

What does the programme offer:

  • A grant ranging from £2000 to £7000 to fund an idea, a project, or an ambition!
  • 4-month mentoring programme ahead of the festival showcase with industry leaders to support you to elevate your career.
  • Spotlight your work on the iconic stage at the Broadway Theatre captivating audiences from Catford and beyond.
How to apply:

Complete the form and submit your application by the Monday 26 February Include a brief bio or CV, samples of your work, and your vision for the performance. Please note that you must be Lewisham based artist/s to apply and aged over 18. We are not accepting applications from organisations at this time.

Dates for your diary:
  • Call Out Deadline: Monday 26 February
  • Notification of successful grant recipients: Monday 4 March
  • Mentoring begins: March – June
  • Festival showcase: Monday 10 June to Sunday 16 June 2024
