150 people attend our information event about applying for EU settled status

Around 150 people attended an event at the Civic Suite on 28 January providing guidance on how to apply for EU settled status.

Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham, and Kevin Bonavia, Cabinet Member for Democracy, Refugees & Accountability, pledged their commitment to supporting EU citizens living in the borough to secure their status to remain in the UK and feel they belong in Lewisham.

Cllr Bonavia said: “We have 25,000 EU residents living in Lewisham.  Brexit is far from being “done” on 31 January - there is still much uncertainty for EU residents over their future status, so we will do everything possible to support them. Whatever happens with Brexit, Lewisham is their home and we want them to stay.”

To remain in the UK after Brexit, EU citizens need to apply for settled status under the Government’s EU Settlement Scheme. To apply for EU settled status read the Home Office’s EU settled status guidance or read our Brexit information for Lewisham residents.
