Who can join the Be Active scheme

Find out who can join the Be Active scheme and get discounts on leisure activities in Lewisham.

You can join the Be Active scheme if you are a Lewisham resident, aged over 16 and you meet at least one of the following criteria:

You get certain benefits

You're eligible if you get any of these:

  • council tax reduction, housing benefit or universal credit

  • tax credits (not child tax credits)

  • income support, jobseeker's allowance or employment and support allowance. 

If so you can get:

  • automatic casual membership at all Lewisham leisure centres.

  • 25% off the cost of most activities.

You have a disability

You’re eligible if any of these are true:

  • you are a Blue Badge holder

  • you are a disability Freedom Pass holder

  • you get disability living allowance, attendance allowance or personal independence payments.

If so you can get:

  • automatic casual membership at all Lewisham leisure centres

  • free swimming

  • free use of the gym, including a group induction

  • free use of the athletic track

  • 25% off the cost of most activities.

Carers

You can sign up to the Be Active scheme if you:

  • are a carer (unpaid or professional) of a disabled adult who lives in the borough

  • care for a disabled child who lives in the borough and is a library member.

Children in care

If you are in care, e.g. in a foster home, ask your guardian to contact us to see if you are eligible.
