Lewisham in Bloom

A chance for residents to showcase their flowers, imagination and gardening skills.

We’re delighted to announce the return of Lewisham in Bloom for residents to win prizes for their gardening talents.

The Lewisham in Bloom competition recognises the importance of gardening for physical and mental health, increased biodiversity and good environmental sustainability practices to make Lewisham a greener, brighter and healthy place to live.

We welcome entries from residents, community groups and businesses, giving recognition to the best Wildlife Gardens, Front Gardens, Containers, Community Gardens and Business premises. 

2025 Categories

  • Best Wildlife Garden 
  • Best Front Garden
  • Best Containers (Containers have to be visible from the Highway and include hanging baskets, pots and window boxes) 
  • Best Community Garden (has to be on Lewisham owned land)
  • Best Business 

Schools will be eligible to apply for the categories of Best Containers, Best Wildlife Garden and Best Community Garden.

2025 Prizes

Category Winners will receive National Garden Vouchers:

  • 1st Place - £60
  • 2nd Place - £40
  • 3rd place - £20

Plus, the Overall Best in Show will receive the new Lewisham in Bloom Award and the first 10 entries received will receive a free RSPB Bird Nesting box.

What will the judges be looking for?

  • Sustainability e.g. perennial, rather than annual planting, use of water butts, mulching, home composting, eco-friendly driveways, companion planting etc
  • Overall use of space and design
  • Planting choices and maintenance of planting
  • Impact of planting
  • Additional considerations for Wildlife Gardens will be diversity, value of wildlife planting and range of habitats
  • Additional considerations for the Community Garden category will be evidence of community activities / events and evidence of educational activities / awareness raising e.g. interpretative signage and engagement with schools

Please note that all entries for Best Front Garden, Best Containers and Best Business must be visible from the Highway.

When can I enter? 

Applications for the Lewisham in Bloom competition will be open from Monday 12 June to Friday 23 June 2025.

How do I enter?

  • You can enter the Lewisham in Bloom competition by completing the online application form and submitting three photos of your entry. Photos should be clear and represent the overall entry rather than close ups of individual plants
  • The deadline for entries is 11.59pm on Friday 23 June 2025
  • All entries must be submitted by the primary contact for each respective entry
  • Please select the category that you are entering
  • You will need to supply your contact details including your name, address, email and phone number

When will judging take place?

The judging period will be between Monday 26 June to Friday 14 July 2025.

What is the judging process?

The judges will review all photo entries and select the best three from each of the five categories.

The judges will then carry out site visits to review the entries in person to decide the order of the top three winners for each category.

Results will be announced in the autumn with a Lewisham in Bloom 2025 event to celebrate the winning entries.
