Storage of gas cylinders

Portable gas/fuel cylinders can cause explosions when involved in a fire.

Lewisham Council does not allow storage of any cylinders without permission in homes managed by us (including those previously managed by Lewisham Homes). Doing so is a breach of your tenancy or leasehold agreement.

This includes canisters for indoor or outdoor gas heaters, camping stoves or gas barbecues. If you use or store oxygen cylinders for medical reasons, please contact us immediately so that we can assess and manage the risk.

If you currently have any type of gas cylinder in your home, please contact the supplier of your cylinder to arrange removal immediately, or take them to the Reuse and Recycling Centre (Landmann Way, SE14 5RS).

Some of the popular companies who supply and remove gas cylinders include:

Waste Care – www.wastecare.co.uk – 0800 091 0000
Calor Gas – www.calor.co.uk – 020 8985 4054
BOC Gas – www.boconline.co.uk – 0330 173 0358

If you are unable to get your cylinders removed, please contact us immediately to request assistance at housingmanagement@lewisham.gov.uk (for tenants) or hos@lewisham.gov.uk (for home  owners/leaseholders) or call us on 0800 028 2 028 (option 5 for tenants and option 3 for leaseholders).

Leaseholders who let their flats must also ensure that their tenants comply with these requirements.
