Walking for health

Walking is a great way to keep active. The physical activity helps you feel happier, and being in nature helps reduce stress.

Regular social walks

You can find details of regular free weekly walks in the borough on the Lewisham Healthy Walks website. The website lists both healthy walks and Nordic walking.

Health walks

These 30–90-minute walks are led by trained volunteers, and range from short park walks to longer explorations of the borough. Find out about healthy walks near you.

Nordic walking

Nordic walking is perfect if you want to get a bit more active. It involves walking with poles, which gently encourage a full-body workout and help to reduce pressure on the knees and joints. Find out more about Nordic walks in the borough.

Become a walk leader

If you enjoy walking and want to get more involved in the healthy walks scheme, you could become a volunteer walk leader. Contact us to find about the free one-day training programme.
