Renewing library items

Find out about renewing items borrowed from a library.

How to renew

You can renew your items:

  • You can renew items ten times. After that, you need to bring your items into the library to renew them again.

  • Language courses can only be renewed five times.

  • Each loan period is 42 days.

  • You cannot renew an item if another library member has requested it.

What can be renewed?

You can renew books, eBooks, eAudio, language courses and CDs.

What can't be renewed?

You cannot renew or extend your loan for videos, DVDs or CD-Roms, and you must return them to the branch you got them from.

If you do not return the items on time you will be charged a repeat hire fee for the entire loan period, up to a maximum of £15 per item.

Renewing digital collections

  • You can renew eBooks and eAudio from OverDrive if there are no outstanding holds or reservations on them.
  • You can download digital items in RBDigital and PressReader an unlimited number of times with no charges.
