Current national COVID-19 restrictions
There are new national COVID-19 restrictions in place to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Everyone should stay at home wherever possible. Do this to protect your family, your friends and the most vulnerable in our community.
Reasons to leave home include:
- To go to childcare, school or college.
- To go to work if your workplace is open and you cannot work from home.
- To exercise outdoors, with your household/bubble or, when you are alone, with one person from outside your household.
- To attend a medical appointment or receive emergency medical care.
- Shopping for basic necessities.
- To visit other members of your support bubble or to provide care to vulnerable people.
- To volunteer, where the facilities remain open.
Many of our services will adapt to these restrictions. Further updates will be available throughout the website, but you can find a summary of changes below:
Critical council services will continue. Schools will remain open, adult and children’s social care services will continue and our waste collection teams will still collect bins. The following services have changed as a result of the restrictions.
Parks and outdoor sport
The below are open:
- children's play areas
The below are closed:
- tennis courts
- basketball courts outdoor
- gyms multi-use games.
Cafes can offer takeaway service only.
Leisure centres, swimming pools and the lake at Beckenham Place Park are closed.
The phased reopening of Glass Mill, Forest Hill Pools and Wavelengths has been postponed.
All libraries have closed. A click and collect service is available at Deptford Lounge, Downham Library and Torridon Community Library.
Markets will only be open for food, hardware and gardening items.
Rubbish and recycling
Our waste collection teams are still collecting bins.
The recycling centre at Landmann Way is still open but only with a pre-booked appointment.
Controlled Parking Zones and Pay and Display car parks are operating as usual.
Marriage and civil partnership ceremonies at Lewisham Register Office will be postponed with no new bookings until restrictions are lifted.
Citizenship ceremonies will continue with adaptions.
Notice appointments and birth registrations will continue and death registrations will continue to be handled by telephone.
Cemeteries, crematoriums and memorial gardens will remain open only for those attending funerals, visiting graves and paying their respects to lost loved ones. Funerals will continue with up to 30 people attending. Read more about the changes to funerals.
Housing services including essential maintenance and repair services will continue.
Day centres are closed until restrictions are lifted.
