Categories for the Mayor of Lewisham Business Awards

Find out about the eight categories and what our judging panel looks for in each of them.

Best Creative Business

We are looking for businesses that excel in the creative field. This can include:

  • design and architecture
  • arts and entertainment
  • digital and media
  • crafts and artisan products.

Nomination guidance

  • You must be able to show how your business has progressed and what types of projects you have delivered in the last six months.
  • We are looking for any economic or skills and training benefits your business has delivered.

Best Green Business

We are looking for a business that has made its practices sustainable and improved the local environment. This may include:

  • efforts concerning waste and recycling
  • green purchasing
  • local environmental quality
  • energy and climate change
  • transport
  • any other environmentally focused activity.

Nomination guidance

  • You must be able to show what your business has done to understand your impact on the environment and improve your environmental performance in the last two years.
  • You must also be able to show how you have integrated environmental matters into your core business.

Best London Living Wage Employer

The Mayor of Lewisham is encouraging employers in the borough to become London Living Wage employers, to give employees an ethical wage (a minimum of £10.55 per hour) to cover the costs of living in London.

Nomination guidance

To nominate your business for this award you will need to become a London Living Wage employer by registering interest with The Living Wage Foundation. You will also need to provide us with evidence of your accredited license.

Best Restaurant/Café/Bar

This award is for food and drink businesses which are highly valued by customers and the local community. We want to reward food and drink businesses that add value to the local area and are highly regarded by their customer base.

Nomination guidance

  • You must be a businesses that serves food and/or drinks and operates within the borough.
  • You must be able to explain how you provide a service that is highly valued by local residents and the local community.

Best Street Food Business

This award is for street food and drink businesses that are bringing innovation and creativity to street food in the borough. We want to reward valued business that bring fantastic service and value to the community.

Nomination guidance

  • You must be a street trader that serves food and/or drinks and operates within the borough.
  • You must be able to explain how you provide a service that is highly valued by local residents and the local community.

Best Independent Shop

This award is for independent shops that are highly valued by their customers and the local community. We want to reward businesses that value their customers highly and leave a lasting impression on them.

Nomination guidance

  • You must be an independent business (shops with no more than six retail outlets).
  • You must be able to explain how you provide a service that is highly valued by local residents and the local community.

Best Hair and Beauty Service

This award is for businesses in the hair and beauty sector that are highly valued by customers and the local community.

Nomination guidance

  • You must be an independent business that provides hair and/or beauty services.
  • You must be able to explain how you provide a service that is valued highly by local residents and the local community.

Investing in skills award

This award is for businesses that enhance the skills and opportunities of their employees and invest in training and apprenticeships. We want to reward independent businesses that value their customers highly and leave a lasting impression on them.

Nomination guidance

  • You must be an independent business.
  • You must be able to explain how you are investing in skills for your employees or the local community.
