Welcome from Freddie Murray, Director of Regeneration and Place

Thank you for taking an interest in this key role.

One of London’s largest boroughs, with over 295,000 residents, Lewisham is fortunate to have award winning parks, great transport links, a thriving cultural scene and world class education institutions such as Trinity Laban dance centre and Goldsmiths, University of London.

We are ambitious and have had considerable success in driving large scale regeneration in key parts of the borough. Our highways, transport and public realm are at the heart of what we’re trying to achieve as a division. The borough has seen significant growth and that is only set to consider increases as our population is set to expand further. Alongside this growth is the need for a high quality environment and the transport infrastructure to go alongside it.

Central to this is an extended Bakerloo Line, introducing the tube to existing stations in the borough, including a new major rail and tube interchange station at Lewisham. Our regeneration plans for Catford Town Centre will see a major project to realign the A205 South Circular and remove the gyratory currently there, facilitating new homes, employment, civic and cultural space to come forward.

Alongside this work, our Corporate Strategy sets out our vision for a greener Lewisham and to improve air quality. The Highways and Transport service will be at the forefront of this, leading on the BLE, air quality improvements such as extending the ULEZ, investing in electric vehicle charging infrastructure amongst other things and enhancing modes of sustainable transport in the borough.

This is an exciting time for us. We are looking for If you are a visionary, highly motivated, energised and credible leader, with a solid track record in delivering a high quality Highways and Transport service, driving investment in transport infrastructure and the environment, then I hope you will join us on our journey in transforming the borough, making Lewisham the best place to live, work and learn.

I look forward to hearing from you.
