Catford markets peppers

Catford’s street market began in the 1880s, originally in Rushey Green. It wasn’t until 1929 that the market moved into Catford Broadway.

In the 1930s there were about 50 stalls selling a mixture of food, clothes, crockery and carpets but the market fizzled out during the war, as Catford suffered serious bomb damage. It wasn’t revived until 1976, when licensing for 35 pitches was granted.

But nearly 40 years on, Catford market is still going strong. In the weekdays, you can find toys, clothes, plants, fruit and vegetables and fish as well as multi-cultural foods.
