The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

This year, Her Majesty the Queen became the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, following an incredible 70 years of service.

An extended bank holiday from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June 2022 will give communities throughout the UK the opportunity to mark this once-in-a-lifetime event.

The Council will be holding a whole of commemorative events and activities. We will be adding to this list so please be sure to check back regularly.

Proms in the Park on Friday 3 June

Proms in the Park is a joyous celebration of music and community which is taking place in three parks across Lewisham on Friday 3 June. Pack a picnic lunch and a rug and prepare to get into the Jubilee spirit.

12:30-1:30pm Mayow Park: Hearts of Steel four-piece steel pan band

Beckenham Place Park (times TBC):  Wuntanara Drumming Group

Please travel to our parks using public transport, bikes or on foot where possible. And help us keep the borough clean by taking your rubbish home with you.

Submit your photos for the Lewisham Libraries' exhibition

To mark the Platinum Jubilee, we are putting on a touring exhibition in Lewisham Libraries and we need your help. Have you ever met the Queen? Were you at a coronation street party in 1953? Perhaps your school had a dress up day for the Silver Jubilee in 1977? Did your local community centre host an afternoon tea for the Golden Jubilee in 2002 or the Diamond Jubilee in 2012?

However you celebrated these historic milestones, we’d love you to share your memories with us so we can share them with the rest of the borough. Submit your photos by Sunday 22 May.

Beacon lighting

Across the UK, beacons will be lit to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. Supported by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Lewisham council will host Beacon lightings in Blackheath and Telegraph Hill.

The Blackheath Society is to lead celebrations on the Heath to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with an event that will include the lighting of a beacon and local choirs on the evening of Thursday 2 June, from 8pm onwards.

Information on Telegraph Hill Beacon lighting to follow.
