Consultation launched on Sustainable Streets

We have launched a consultation as part of our Sustainable Streets programme, to gather feedback from residents and businesses in Catford South, Lee, Hither Green and Brockley on proposals to enhance sustainability on local streets, reduce traffic and pollution, and improve road safety.

The consultation seeks input on a range of measures aimed at making these areas more sustainable. These include the introduction of a new parking permit scheme, the implementation of safer crossing points, more street trees, cycle hangars and electric vehicle charging points.

Our Sustainable Streets programme, aims to reduce the number of car journeys made in Lewisham and encourage more people to walk, cycle or use public transport, to reduce air pollution, traffic, congestion and lower carbon emissions.

Following the successful launch of the previous Deptford consultation in 2023, we are now extending the consultation process to Catford South, Lee, Hither Green, and Brockley. This expansion reflects our commitment to engaging with residents and stakeholders across the borough to ensure that what is proposed aligns with local needs and priorities.

To ensure that proposed measures are informed by local insights, the consultation will follow a two-step approach.

  • Residents are invited to participate and share their thoughts on where they can identify areas with parking problems and suggest locations for sustainable transport measures.
  • The feedback collected from phase one will inform the development of detailed designs for specific streets. Residents and businesses will then be consulted on these proposals to gather feedback and refine future plans.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in both stages of the consultation process to help shape the future of their local streets and communities.

Information about the consultation will be distributed to households in the consultation area, and paper copies of the survey will be available at:

  • Lee Green Community Centre, 3 Leegate, SE12 8SS
  • Corbett Community Library, 103 Torridon Road, SE6 1RQ
  • Telegraph Hill Centre, Kitto Road, SE14 5TY

Visit Sustainable Streets for more information and to take part in the consultation.
