Home composting

Composting is a great alternative to using our garden waste subscription service. Find out how you can compost at home.
Garden waste subscriptions and bin removals

Subscribe or renew your subscription for the year April 2024 to March 2025.

Residents can subscribe by paying the full amount of £93.50 using a debit or credit card. Subscribed residents can expect to receive a sticker within 10 working days. New subscribers without a bin can expect to receive their bin within 10 working days.

From June 2024, we will start to remove unsubscribed bins. If you wish to continue to use the service, subscribe as soon as possible to avoid disruption to the service.

Why compost?

Composting food scraps helps to reduce the amount of waste sent with your household rubbish to the incinerator. It's also an easy way to transform both kitchen and garden waste into valuable, nutrient-rich food for your garden. Composting is also a low cost way to improve the soil in your garden. Find out more about the benefits of composting.

Buy a home compost a bin

You can order a compost bin for £10.

The bin is 220 litres, 90cm tall and 74cm in diameter.

Where to keep it

The best location for a compost bin is under shelter, in partial or full shade, to avoid extremes of temperature and moisture. To deter rats, make sure the bin's not up against a boundary wall or fence, and the lid is fitted securely.
